New report shows food retailers how to navigate out of Covid twilight zone

Some grocery stores have doubled sales during the COVID-19 pandemic, partially due to an increase in home cooking. In addition, a new report by Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) shows that consumers are more aware and more concerned with how food impacts human health and the environment as a result of the pandemic. A study by FMCG Gurus found that 80% of consumers around the world are attempting to eat and drink healthier, and the PHA report found that almost 60% of consumers say it is important that the products they purchase and consume are good for the planet and are produced in a sustainable way. The top three takeaways from the report are:

  1. Consumers want to eat healthier but need the retailer’s help
  2. Consumers want foods and beverages that help them build a strong immune system and fight off illness
  3. Sustainable foods and beverages are here to stay. The report found that 54% of consumers say they will continue to make sustainable choices after the pandemic.
